Saturday night hockey became a tradition of over the years, thanks in part to people like Foster Hewitt who pioneered early hockey broadcasts on the radio. "He shoots, He scores" became his trademark phrase. Through the years like Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, Gerry Cheevers, Billy Harris, (Shown here) and numerous other became household names thanks to those broadcasts.
Today watching hockey with a choice of multiple media anywhere anytime, has helped to make hockey one the cultural cornerstones of our society. When it became possible to see players like Steve Yzerman, Joe Thornton and now present players applying their skills on the ice, hockey became all the more real. Don Cherry, a recognized spokesman for hockey today contributes his colourful expression to the spirit of the game at home and on the ice.
